8u Catcher Drills Transformation (From Simple Daily Practices With His Dad)

When you get to 8u baseball, the catcher position become more and more important as passed balls matter more.

Rob and Tristan found my videos through instagram, took the 7 Day Stance Challenge, and were part of the first group of CatchCORE.

Let’s jump into their story and see how they got better at catching while spending a ton of quality time together and “become teammates” as they work together.

The Beginning of the 8u Catcher Transformation

When the duo started CatchCORE, their main challenge was a lack of clarity.

While Rob had experience coaching older kids, working with a child as young as Tristan was uncharted territory.

He admits, "I wasn't sure where they should or could be [at 7 years old]." This program introduced them to exercises and techniques he wouldn’t have dreamed of introducing to Tristan at his age, like modified kickstands. The revelation? The techniques were not that different from those used with older kids.

Navigating At Home Catcher Drills: A Father and Son Adventure

As they dived deep into the CatchCORE program, two aspects shone out: skill development and bonding. Tristan's dad loved the accountability the program demanded. It fit seamlessly into their daily routine, transforming practice from a chore to a shared experience.

For Tristan, it wasn’t just about mastering catching; it was also about teaching. He would watch the program's videos, then show his dad. In his father's words, "It felt like we were on the same team when it came to this. We were teammates in this program."

An unexpected benefit of the program was the journaling aspect. Tristan had never journaled about baseball before. This act of writing helped him understand the game better and even improved his handwriting—a bonus that made his mother very happy!

The 8u Catcher Transformation

The father and son duo agree that their perspective on training has changed.

The program's emphasis on self-analysis—understanding and duplicating what they saw on video—proved instrumental.

"When they actually see themselves on camera, they can figure, 'oh, I don't feel right. Now I'm more aware of it when I actually do the drill the next day,'" Rob father shared.

By the program's end, Tristan had evolved from struggling with catching balls that hopped off the ground to effortlessly catching them on one motion.

His father noticed another development too: "A lot of kids will play baseball, but then will they do it on their own? I found out how much he loves baseball through this part of it."

It’s Not Just 8u Catcher Drills…

The CatchCORE program was more than just a training module for this father-son duo. It was a transformative experience that changed how they viewed baseball training. They learned the importance of self-awareness, consistent practice, and the beauty of learning together.

If one had to summarize their journey, it would be this: Before CatchCORE, they were a father and son trying to figure out the world of baseball. After CatchCORE, they emerged as teammates—each other's cheerleaders and coaches, ready to tackle any challenge that came their way.

To all parents and children out there looking for a way to bond, learn, and grow in the world of sports, the story of Tristan and his father serves as a testament to what programs like CatchCORE can achieve.
